Women's Track and Field Competes at Mid-February Meet

BEREA, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team finished second overall in the Mid-February Meet at Baldwin Wallace on Friday night.

The Lions team of Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler), Jen Gibson (Hookstown, PA/South Slide), Franki DiSalvo (Erie, PA/McDowell), and Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) set a new Behrend indoor record in the 4X2000 meter relay. The foursome came in at 1:48.93, finishing first and qualifying for ECAC's. The same group later finished second in the 4X400 meter relay.

Spade also qualified for ECAC's by winning the 800 meter run with a time of 2:18.07. The senior came into today's meet ranked 20th in the nation in the 800.

In the pole vault competition, DiSalvo tied for first place with a length of 3.35 meters. That distance also qualifies the freshman for ECAC's.

Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) finished the mile run in 5:37.33, good for third place.

The 3000 meter run saw the Lions take two of the top three spots. Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) finished second with a time of 11:09.61, and Katie Manno (Erie, PA/McDowell) came in third with a time of 11:10.06.

In the finals of the 55 meter dash, Allen carded a third place finish and a time of 7.41 seconds.

Jamie Szramowski (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) came in third in the 1000 meter run at 3:13.46, and Sarah Parrish (North East, PA/North East) finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.90.

Behrend will travel to the Kenyon College Classic on Saturday, February 22.
