Women's Track and Field Takes Behrend Invitational

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team finished first overall in the 2014 Penn State Behrend Invitational, tallying 129 points.

Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler) took first place in the 100 meter (12.64 seconds) and 200 meter (25.78 seconds) events, qualifying for ECAC's in both events.  Franki DiSalvo (Erie, PA/McDowell) carded a second-place finish (27.13 seconds), and Jen Gibson (Hookstown, PA/South Side) (27.88 seconds) came in third.

The Lions took the top two spots in the 400 as Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) came in first and qualified for ECAC's at 59.28 and Gibson (1:04.37) finished second.

Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) qualified for ECAC's with her first place finish in the 10,000 finishing in 38:57.76.

The foursome of DiSalvo, Allen, Kati Piger (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock), and Spade qualified for ECAC's and set a new Behrend facility record in the 4x100 meter relays with a time of 50.51 seconds.

Katie Boehmer (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) came in first in the high jump with a mark of 1.47 meters and Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) won the 3000 meter steeplechase at 12:14.04.

In the discus, April McDermott (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) was victorious. The junior set a new facility record with a distance of 38.95 meters. Corinne Conto (Bruin, PA/Karns City Area) finished first in the triple jump (9.81 meters).

The Lions will travel to Grove City on May 2.
