Lions Compete at Carnegie Mellon Tri-Meet

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team took part in the Carnegie Mellon Tri-Meet at Gesling Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Behrend finished 1,2, and 3 in the 400 meter run. Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) finished first at 58.86, Jen Gibson (Hookstown, PA/South Side) came in second with a time of 1:04.73, and Franki DiSalvo (Erie, PA/McDowell) finished third at 1:05.93. Spade's time was good for a new Lions outdoor record and a spot in the ECAC Outdoor Championships.

Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler) took both the 100 meter race (12.60 seconds) and the 200 meter race at 25.97. Both numbers qualify Allen for ECAC's.

In the discus throw, April McDermott (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) finished first with an ECAC qualifying distance of 37.35 meters.

Cecelia Miller (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) won the triple-jump with a distance of 10.03 meters.

The steeplechase saw Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) post a 12:06.04 while Miranda Boatman (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had a 13:07.00.

The Lions team of Disalvo, Allen, Kati Piger (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock), and Spade won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 50.87.

Behrend will travel to Kenyon College on April 19.
