Lions Split Matches at Allegheny Gator Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa.  – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Allegheny Gator Invitational on Friday night.

The Lions (5-4) defeated Allegheny in four sets (25-18, 25-14, 14-25, 25-17) for a 3-1 victory before falling to Thiel in three (25-9, 25-11, 25-18).

Lindsay Bean (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) hit .400 with a team-best 13 kills in the win over the Gators. Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) and Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) each had a double-double. Magnusen had 32 assists, 13 digs and a game-high six aces. Sperry led with 17 digs and 12 kills.

Against the Tomcats, Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) posted 24 digs and Sperry added 19 digs and five kills. Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) tallied 13 digs and Catherine Healy (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) recorded four kills. Magnusen managed 13 assists.

Behrend is back in action tomorrow at the Allegheny Invitational. The Lions face Case Western at 10 a.m. and Frostburg State at 12 p.m.
