Five Lions Named All-AMCC

ERIE, Pa. – Five members of the Penn State Behrend women's volleyball squad were named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) team, announced on Thursday.

Senior Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) and junior Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) were selected to the first team. Sophomore Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Catherine Healy (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) earned second-team honors, while Alyssa Pears (Meadville, PA/Meadville) was an honorable mention.

Sperry repeats on the first team to earn her fourth straight recognition on the All-Conference team. The outside hitter is first on the squad and ranks third in the conference in kills (295). Sperry is also sixth in the AMCC in digs (463). She recorded 16 double-doubles (kills, digs), averaging 2.89 kills and 4.54 digs per set. Sperry finishes her career with 977 kills and 1,657 digs to rank sixth on the all-time charts in digs.

Magnusen is making her first appearance on the first team after earning second-team accolades a year ago.  She is second in the conference in assists (897) and is third in hitting percentage (.279). Magnusen posted a triple-double against Buffalo State with 47 assists, 19 digs and 10 kills. She became just the fourth volleyball player in program history to 2,000 assists. Magnusen was second on the team in aces (35) and third in blocks (47).

Storino, Healy and Pears are receiving their first All-AMCC honors. Storino tallied 4.75 digs per set for first on the team and ranked fourth in digs (475) in the conference. She also had a team-best 41 aces and added 49 assists. Storino had two career highs with digs against St. Vincent and six aces in the win over La Roche.

Healy paced the squad and the conference with a .354 hitting percentage in 28 matches played. Her 269 kills ranked her fifth in the AMCC and second on the team. Healy was the leader at the net, making 65 total blocks including 13 solo. She had double-digit kills in 13 matches, including a season-best 21 kills at Buffalo State.

Pears played in every match and set this season, registering 180 kills (third on team), 103 digs, 43 assists, 28 blocks and 27 aces in her final year.  She knocked in a season-best 14 kills on two occasions and had five aces to lead the Lions over Mt. Aloysius.

The Lions finished the season 19-10, advanced to the AMCC finals and made their fifth appearance in the ECAC Tournament.
