Gamble, Hackworth Highlight Lions’ Postseason Honors

ERIE, Pa. – Six members of the Penn State Behrend men's soccer team were named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Team with Jake Gamble (Butler, PA/Butler) and Eric Hackworth (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) earning Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors respectively.

Gamble, Hackworth, and Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) were named to the first team, with Jimmy Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair), Danny Poljak (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) earning second-team accolades.

Gamble was a dominate force on offense all season.  The senior forward led both Behrend and the AMCC in goals (20) and points (44) to set new single-season school records.  Gamble has been named to the first team in three straight seasons.  He is the program's all-time leader in goals (57) and points (129).

Vunovic appears on the all-conference team for the second consecutive year.  The junior set a career-high with eight goals, including four game-winners, and led the team with six assists.

Hackworth is making his first appearance on the all-conference team after a stellar junior season.  The junior defender is the back bone to the Behrend defense, helping the team post eight shutouts.  Hackworth netted four goals and tallied one assist for a career-high nine points.

After a great sophomore season, Belack earns his first nod to the all-conference team.  He was second on the team with 11 goals.  Belack also tallied four assists for a total of 25 points.

Poljak is capping his career with all-conference honors for the second time.  The senior defender started in all 22 games, pushing his career total to 82 to tie for fourth all-time in school history.  Poljak contributed one goal for Lions as well.

Wassell rounds out the Behrend honorees with a spot on the second team in his first full season as a starter.  The sophomore keeper was second in the AMCC in goals against average (0.77) and save percentage (.808).  Wassell allowed just 14 goals, ranking third best in school history, in 19 starts.

The Lions earned a postseason tournament bid for the sixth straight year and will host La Roche on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the first round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament.
