Lions Dominate Baldwin-Wallace in Men's Swimming and Diving

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team won the first seven out of 10 events to dominate Baldwin-Wallace 119-96 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Junker Center.

The Lions remain undefeated in dual-meet action with the victory. Behrend set the tone in the opening 400 medley relay, taking first and third place. Daniel Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford), Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) and Andrew Opalewski (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) posted a time of 3:43.90 to win, while Eric Peirce (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley), Jake Sherk (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabthtown), Peter Blazak (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley), and Everett Sargent (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) took third in 3:51.75.

Brian Mong (Franklin, PA/Franklin) crushed the 1000 freestyle, putting almost a minute between him and Alex Habursky for the Yellow Jackets. Mong won with a time of 10:48.30. The third straight win went to Dane Dombrosky (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant) in the 200 free. He clocked in at 1:51.63 with his fastest leg coming in at 26.06.

Lucas Kachurick (McKeesport, PA/Elizabeth Forward) was the fourth winner for the Lions. He posted a score of 300.70 for the victory in the 1-meter diving. Danny Ketterer (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) and Andrew Neder (Erie, PA/Fairview) were third and fourth, respectively.

Behrend swept the top three spots in the 100 freestyle, led by Opalewski in first with a winning time of 49.87. Sargent placed second (51.00) and Blazak was a close third (51.42).

After Simon won the 200 backstroke for the Lions (2:06.52), Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 freestyle. He had a time of 5:10.57 for the win, while Mong and Dombrosky were neck-and-neck for second and third, respectively. Mong tallied a time of 5:13.65 and Dombroskey came in 5:13.95.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Allegheny. Meet time is 1 p.m.
