ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are geared up for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships this weekend hosted by Grove City in conjunction with the James E. Longnecker Invitational.

The meet features a trials and finals session each day, beginning Wednesday night with diving at 7:30 p.m. The preliminaries for swimming events begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. The meet will conclude with finals on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The men’s team, who enters the meet with a 7-3 dual-meet record, is looking to capture its sixth straight AMCC Championship. The Lions are seeded first in the AMCC in 17 out of 20 events. Behrend’s 200 medley relay, consisting of Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford), Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) and Dane Dombrosky (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant), is ranked second overall in the two meets combined with a season-best time of 1:35.98, which set an AMCC open record this season.

Simon holds the AMCC open record in the 100 backstroke and is seeded second overall with a time of 52.80. He is also fourth in the 50 free (22.05). Junior Brian Mong also set an AMCC Open record with a time of 17:09.25 in the 1650 free, seeding second overall, while ranking fourth in the 500 free (4:55.48).

Altemose, who holds the AMCC open and meet record in the 100 fly and 200 fly, will look to defend his titles with a top time of 52.50 and 1:59.03, respectively. The junior has the best time in the 100 backstroke (53.70 – 3rd rank overall).

In the diving competition, Lucas Kachurick (McKeesport, PA/Elizabeth Forward) is seeded first in the one-meter (462.40) and second overall in the three-meter (413.15). The reigning AMCC Diver of the Year is hoping to win back-to-back conference titles for the Lions.

Behrend’s women’s team joins the men in competing for its sixth consecutive AMCC crown this weekend. Helping the Lions in those efforts will be MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/West Springfield), who holds the fastest AMCC time in the 100 (1:02.60) and 200 backstroke (2:14.81). The junior holds the conference open and meet record in the 200 backstroke.

Anne Lawrence (State College, PA/State College) enters the meet with the top time in the 100 fly (1:00.60) and 200 IM (2:17.18). Overall they rank fifth and ninth, respectively. Julie Cook (Warren, PA/Warren) looks to repeat as champion in the 200 breaststroke with season-best time of 2:35.00. She set the AMCC open and meet record at last year’s championship.

Freshman diver Meghan Wade (Berea, OH/Berea) looks to make a splash on the women’s side, leading the AMCC with a 1-meter score of 313.55 and 3-meter score of 304.10.
