Lions Down Mt. Union

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team knocked of Mt. Union, 129-101 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Lions got off to a quick start, taking first in the 200 yard medley relay to open the meet. The team of Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford), Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge), and Peter Blazak (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) finished with a time of 1:39.06.  During the event, Simon broke both the school and the pool record for the 50 yard back with a time of 24.03.

Just two events later, Javier Solivan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/UHS) won a tight 200 yard freestyle. Solivan came in with a time of 1:47.91, edging out Mike Greisl's time of 1:48.00.

In the 50 yard freestyle, Everett Sargent (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) and Dane Dombrosky (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant) finished first and second with times of 22.75 and 22.89 respectively.

Simon continued his solid day by taking first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 52.98. After the 100 yard backstroke, Solivan and Brian Mong (Franklin, PA/Franklin) finished second and third in the 500 yard freestyle to secure the victory.  Solivan finished with a time of 5:06.20 while Mong was close behind at 5:09.15. 

On the diving board, Lucas Kachurick (McKeesport, PA/Elizabeth Forward) continued to build on his successful season. Kachurick won both the one meter and the three meter dives.  In the one meter, Kachurick totaled a score of 307.10.  In the three meter dive, the sophomore finished with a total of 274.55.

Behrend led for the entire meet, bringing home their fourth straight victory.

The Lions will be back in the water on Saturday for the Blue/White Meet at 1 p.m.
