Men's Swimming and Diving Records First AMCC Win

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team captured first place and second place in the first six events to take a big lead over Penn State Altoona and post the eventual 90-37 victory in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Lions picked up their first conference win of the season thanks to the early domination in the meet. In the opening 200 medley relay, Daniel Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford), Jake Sherk (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabthtown), Clay Altemose (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) and Dane Dombrosky (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Mt. Pleasant) were the winning foursome with a time of 1:42.31.

The second Behrend relay team consisting of Andrew Opalewski (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock), Brian Mong (Franklin, PA/Franklin), Justin Pritchard (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Garrett Wagner (State College, PA/State College) touched four seconds behind the first in 1:46.19.

Josh Schwab (Bradford, PA/Bradford) was first in the 1000 freestyle (11:00.73) and Mong was the winner in the 200 freestyle. Mong led with a time of 1:54.10, while Pritchard took second and Justin Seely (North East, PA/North East) snagged third.

In the fourth event, Sherk beat out teammate Andrew Beck (DuBois, PA/DuBois) by a second in the 50 free. Sherk touched in 23.16 and Beck in 24.22.

Simon took first in the next two individual events. He recorded a time of 2:09.19 in the 200 IM, followed by Dombrosky in second (2:15.62). He then won the 100 butterfly (55.61), while Peter Blazak (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) earned second (59.61) and Schwab was third (1:03.43).

Lucas Kachurick (McKeesport, PA/Elizabeth Forward) posted a score of 231.15 in the exhibition one-meter diving and Andrew Neder (Erie, PA/Fairview) collected a total of 163.85.

The Lions return to action on Saturday at Washington & Jefferson. Meet time is 1 p.m.
