Behrend Lions Men's Tennis Loses to Grove City, Defeats Waynesburg

The Penn State Behrend Lions men's tennis team competed on Friday, February 19 and on Saturday, February 20 for their first home matches of the year.  The blue and white dropped their match on Friday to Grove City but came back to defeat Waynesburg on Saturday.

The Behrend Lions struggled in their opening home match to the Wolverines of Grove City, losing 8-1.  Elliot Blackstone (Wexford/Pine Richland) was the bright spot for the Behrend Lions as he continued his success with a 7-6, 6-4 victory playing in the number one spot for singles.  Blackstone was the lone victor for the Behrend Lions on the day.  The loss dropped Behrend's record to 0-2 on the young season.

The blue and white would get back to their regular form on Saturday against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets with a decisive 9-0 victory.  Blackstone picked up right where he left off with a 6-3, 6-0 singles victory and teamed up with freshman Chris Galvin (Erie/McDowell) to earn a doubles win, 8-0.  Galvin would also take a singles win by scores of 6-4, 6-0 while Shane Mosier (Kersey/St.Marys), Peter Bissert (Pittsburgh/Seton-LaSalle), Brad Nagel (West Alexander/McGuffey) and Jason Grosch (Warren/Warren) all earned wins in singles.  Kelly Manning (Sharpsville/Kennedy Catholic) and John Michalko (Washington/McGuffey) also teamed up in doubles to add to the success of the blue and white with a 8-0 victory.  With the win, the Behrend Lions improve their record to 1-2 and will look to build on this win pushing through the rest of the season.

Up next for Coach Barger's Behrend Lions will be another home match on Saturday, February 27 against the Westminster Titans.  The blue and white will then be traveling down to Hilton Head, South Carolina for their spring trip in which they will be competing in four matches in five days.
