ERIE, Pa. – Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) became the seventh female in program history to be named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Swimmer of the Year, headlining the 2016-17 All-Conference Team, announced on Tuesday.
Horn broke three team records this season, including the 50 freestyle twice, the 100 freestyle and 50 backstroke. The junior was the highest-point winner of the AMCC Championships with seven-first place finishes while breaking 13 records in the process. Horn was the champion in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle. She was also a member of four championships relays. The 400 medley relay broke a 12-year old pool record and her lead off 50 backstroke in the winning 200 medley relay was a new team record.
Junior Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), the 2015-16 AMCC Swimmer of the Year, was a six-time All-AMCC first-team selection. Individually, she was the conference champion in the 200 IM and runner up in the 100 butterfly. Lowery also swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay to be a part of six new records (team, conference, meet). Also joining those record-breaking relays was freshman Abigail Witmer (Herndon, PA/Herndon).
Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) was a four-time All-Conference first-team choice for being a member of the winning 200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 800 free relay and 400 free relay, and then was runner up in the 50 freestyle for second-team honors.
Seniors Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton La-Salle) and Kristin Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) capped their careers with three and four All-AMCC honors, respectively. Watterson repeated as champion in the 400 IM and the 1650 freestyle before swimming in the victorious 800 free relay to be named to the first team. Owens joined the 400 medley relay and 200 medley relay that placed first, before taking runner up in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes for second-team All-Conference.
Claire Mallick (Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills) and Lacey Grinnen (Warren, PA/Warren) each earned a nod on the All-Conference Team. Mallick was a member of the winning 200 medley relay for first-team honors, while Grinnen placed second in the 1650 freestyle for second-team accolades.
