Oldach's 30 Points Sparks Lions Past RIT

ROCHESTER, NY – Amy Oldach scored a career-high 30 points and added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team over the Rochester Institute of Technology 81-69 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (2-1) shot 45 percent from the floor and outscored the Tigers 41-29 in the second half, breaking a 40-all tie after the opening stanza to pick up their second win of the season.

Holly Bourquin recorded her first double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 boards. Bourquin shot 70 percent from the field, going 7-for-10. Two other players scored in double figures including Kim Pol with 13 and Emily Detsch registering 12 points to go with eight rebounds.

RIT got 24 points from Leslie Haven and 16 points by Kayla Wheeler.

Oldach scored 15 points in each half, helping Behrend take the lead in the second half and never look back.

Bourquin netted three of the Lions first five baskets to open the final half for a 50-46 lead. Alex Kelley and Anne Wapshare each drained a jumper to tie the game at 50-all. From there, Oldach recorded the next five points for Behrend for the slight lead.

Bourquin got another bucket and Kim Pol hit one from behind the arc off an Oldach steal for a 60-51 advantage. 

With 11:07 remaining, Oldach sunk a triple to make it a 10-point contest. The Lions kept the Tigers out of reach, only letting them get within seven points before Oldach connected on another trey to make it 75-65. 

Down 27-13 in the first half with 10 minutes gone, the Lions gave the Tigers a dose of their own medicine and went on a 27-13 run to end the half for a standstill at the break. Oldach and Pol combined for the final 10 points. Pol hit a jumper and two free throws, while Oldach nailed two three-pointers, including a rainmaker with one second left.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow at Hiram. Game time is 2 p.m.
