Women's Basketball Receives Sportsmanship Award

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team has been named the recipient of the 2009-10 Collegiate Officials Association (COA) "Donna Ledwin Sportsmanship Award".  This award presented to a coach, team and college or university which best exemplifies the highest degree of sportsmanship, character, and ethics among their players, coaches and spectators.

The award is named after the current Commissioner of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Donna Ledwin, who is 110% about sportsmanship and supporting the officials. Ledwin prominently displays the characteristics of the following AMCC principles: 1. Cheer for your team, not against the visitors, 2. Don't get personal in comments about players, coaches or officials, 3. Give players, coaches and officials their space by keeping away from the team bench and playing areas, 4. No vulgar, profane, racist or sexist comments, 5. A no-tolerance policy for alcohol is in effect at all contests.
