Women's Basketball Defeats Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Holly Bourquin tallied a game-high 13 points to go along with eight rebounds to lead the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team past Franciscan 72-45 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

Amy Oldach made a season-high eight steals and Hannah Novotny grabbed 10 rebounds to help the Lions (10-4, 6-2 AMCC) remain undefeated against the Barons (2-11, 1-7 AMCC).

The Behrend defense held Franciscan to just 45 points, including 15 in the first half while not allowing any Franciscan player to score in double digits. Molly Coogan recorded a team-best nine points and three steals.

In the first 10 minutes of the game, the Lions went on an 18-4 run to set the pace for the remainder of the game.  Seven different players scored to get Behrend the early lead.

The Lions shot 12-for-12 from the charity stripe in the first half and made a season-high 28 for the game.

Bourquin scored the first two baskets in the second stanza for a 35-15 lead. Behrend went on to score 37 more points for its sixth conference win.

In addition to eight steals, Oldach scored 12 points and Brianna Bayly added a season-best 11 points.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday against Medaille. The game begins at 6 p.m. and will be televised on Image Sports Network.
