Women's Basketball Defeats D'Youville

BUFFALO, NY – Amy Oldach posted her second double-double of the season with a game-high 16 points and 10 assists to lead the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team over D'Youville 67-42 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Thursday.

After a 10-point lead at halftime, the Lions (14-5, 10-3 AMCC) outscored the Spartans (5-15, 5-8 AMCC) 34-19 to complete the season sweep.  Aly Eagle scored 15 points and Julia Myers dominated on the boards with a career-high 12 rebounds.

Behrend forced 29 turnovers with Oldach making eight of her 10 steals in the decisive first half to rebound back into the win column, putting head coach Roz Fornari two victories away from her 300th.

After going 1-for-3 to start the game, the Lions hit for three straight to take their first lead at 10-9. Eagle and Oldach each got a bucket and Emily Detsch put away a triple.

D'Youville's Kaitlyn Roland scored seven straight points, including a three-pointer at the 9:06 mark to give the Spartans the lead back at 16-14. That would be the last time D'Youville had a lead. Two Oldach steals and back-to-back fast-break layups put Behrend ahead for good.

The hosts did pull within one on two occasions, but a 9-0 lead to finish the half helped the Lions take a double-digit lead into the locker rooms.

Behrend started the second half the way it ended the first, with a 9-0 run for a commanding 42-23 lead.  Once the Lions took a 20-point advantage, they never let up to finish with a final 67-42 score.

Abby Henderson ended with a career-high 11 points and Detsch added 10.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Pitt-Greensburg. Game time is 2 p.m.
