ERIE, Pa. – Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Co-Swimmer of the Year and Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was chosen Newcomer of the Year, while seven other Penn State Behrend men's swimmers earned All-AMCC honors.
Simon repeats as Co-Swimmer of the Year after leading the Lions to their eighth consecutive conference title last weekend. The junior was a seven-time All-Conference selection this season. He earned first-team honors for winning the 50 free and 100 backstroke for the second year in a row. Simon was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay and 400 free relay. He claimed second-team accolades in the 100 freestyle, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.
Kost earned All-AMCC honors on the first team for being the conference champion in the 400 IM and 200 backstroke. He also was on the second team in the 200 IM.
Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) made a splash in his first season with Behrend. The newcomer won the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly, while helping the 400 medley and freestyle relays to earn four first-team All-Conference nods.
Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) was the fourth swimmer on the first team for an individual win. He claimed the 1650 freestyle for the second year in a row, while taking second in the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly for second-team accolades.
Ty Elder (Brentwood, CA/Heritage) was named to the All-Conference team for his participation in relays. He is on the first team for the 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, and then claimed second-team honors in the 200 freestyle relay.
Eric Matteson (Corry, PA/Corry) was a three-time All-Conference choice for the Lions. He was a member of the winning 400 medley relay, before placing second in the 200 breaststroke and 200 medley relay.
Senior Steve Torre (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette), Scott Romanko (Plum, PA/Plum) and Kenton Matthaei (Madison, NJ/Madison) were recognized on the All-Conference team for relay wins. Torre helped the 400 free relay take first place and the 200 free relay finish second. Matthei was also on the 200 free relay and then joined Romanko on the second-place 200 medley relay team to round out the All-AMCC honors.
