Women's Track and Field Takes Third at Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team took third place out of four teams in their first scored meet of the outdoor season. The posted a score of 129 behind Carnegie Mellon (216) and Westminster (180) at the Carnegie Mellon Quad Meet Saturday.

Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler) won two events on the day. First, she captured the 200m victory with a 26.50. Casey Kulka (Warren, PA/Warren Area) finished fifth behind her with a time of 29.98.

Allen then took the 400m with an ECAC qualifying time of 58.80. She has already qualified for ECACs in the 100m, 200m and 400m only two meets into the outdoor season.

In the 800m, Courtney Sargent (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) finished fourth in a time of 2:34.56 and Katelyn Hancock (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) finished fifth, posting a 2:37.81. Sargent also took second in the 1500m in 5:11.94 followed by Rachel Ramsey (North Versailles, PA/East Allegheny) in third with a 5:12.85. Ramsey also finished fifth in the 3000m with an 11:33.66.

Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) took home fourth in the 100m hurdles and second in the 400m hurdles. She ran times of 17.65 and 1:13.34 respectively.

Faith Leri (Alexandria, PA/Juniata Valley) finished third in the high jump, leaping 1.45m (4' 9"). Kati Piger (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) finished fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 25.22m (82' 9") and fifth in the long jump at 4.66m (15' 3.5").

The Lions return to action track at Mount Union next Friday and Saturday for a two-day meet. Events start at 10 a.m. each day.
