Women's Track & Field Wins CSAC; Allen Named Track MVP

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team took first out of the seven schools in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championship in their first season in the league with a combined score of 276.5, edging Gwynedd Mercy by 147.5 points.

Paige Allen (Butler, PA/Butler) earned track MVP honors with 30 combined points. She won three individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams during the championships. Allen won the 100m (12.41) and 110m hurdles (16.53) after breaking school records in each event in prelims followed by a win in the 200m with a time of 26.23.

Allen, along with Haley Yenchik (Cecil, PA/Canon McMillan), Rachel Pell (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) and Ashlyn Carlsson (Butler, PA/Knoch) won the 4x100m relay in a time of 49.91. Then, Allen, Yenchik, Pell and Courtney Sargent (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) won the 4x400m in 4:07.16.

Yenchik won the pole vault (10' 11.75") and triple jump (37' 7.75"), while Michaela Krause (Union City, PA/Union City Area) took second in the pole vault (10' 2") and Kati Piger (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) and Faith Leri (Alexandria, PA/Juniata Valley) finished second and third in the triple jump with distances of 33' 3.25" and 32' 0.25" respectively.

Leri also won the high jump, leaping a height of 5' 1" and finished fourth in the long jump at 15' 6.25". Piger took second in the long jump with a distance of 16' 6.5" and Yenchik took third at 15' 6.75".

Rachel Ramsey (North Versailles, PA/East Allegheny) took first place finishes in the 5000m and 10000m. She won the 5000 in 20:03.69, ahead of Abby Gilmore (Waterford, PA/LeBoeuf) who took fourth with a time of 21:41.76. Ramsey also won the 10000 in a time of 41:56.28, three minutes in front of Katie Manno (Erie, PA/McDowell) who took second at 45:04.46.

Sargent won the 800m with a time of 2:22.92 and Katelyn Hancock (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) finished third with a time of 2:25.14. Pell also took second in the 110m hurdles in a time of 16.81 before winning the 400m hurdles, posting a time of 1:08.23. Hancock and Sargent finished 2-3 behind her in times of 1:12.19 and 1:13.75 respectively.

The Lions run again at Allegheny on Friday as one last tune up before the ECAC championships. The meet starts at 1 p.m.
