Lions Fall to Otterbein, 10-5

WESTERVILLE, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell to Otterbein 10-5 on Thursday afternoon at Fishbaugh Field.

The Lions (25-12) opened the scoring in the top of the first. After John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) walked, Jordan Weinzierl (St. Mary's, PA/St. Mary's) was hit by a pitch. Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) put Behrend in front 1-0 with an RBI single to left.

Hlavinka then gave the Lions a 2-0 advantage in the top of the fifth on a two-out, RBI single to center that scored Tommy Kocur (Erie, PA/McDowell).

Jake Simmerman tied the game with a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the sixth, and the Cardinals (23-13) took the lead on David Lemley's RBI double. Otterbein put the game away in the bottom of the eighth thanks in large part to Sean Kettering's grand slam to left-center. In all, it was a seven-run frame that put the Cardinals up, 10-2.

Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) drilled a three-run homer run in the top of the ninth for Behrend, but Otterbein held on for the 10-5 win. It was the freshman's second long ball of the season.

Justin Wood threw four shutout innings for the Lions in the loss, striking out four. Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) had two hits for Behrend, and Hlavinka reached base twice with an RBI and a run scored.

The Lions will travel to take on Grove City on Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m.
