AMCC Tournament Run Ends With Loss to Pitt-Greensburg

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team was knocked out of the Allegheny Mountian Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Tournament following a 5-1 defeat to Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday morning at La Roche College.

The Bobcats (22-19) went up 1-0 in the top of the first on Chad Jacob's RBI double.

It remained a one-run contest until the top of the eighth. With two down and the bases loaded, Anthony Bozzuto singled to left. The clutch hit scored two runs and gave Pitt-Greensburg a 3-0 lead.

The Lions (28-14) got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) led off with a single. Two batters later, Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) ripped an RBI double to left, scoring Bergstrom to put Behrend within two at 3-1.

In the top of the ninth, the Panthers responded. Greg Lynn and Logan Douglas each had RBI singles that put the Panthers ahead by a score of 5-1.

With two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the ninth, Behrend mounted a rally. The Lions brought the tying run to the plate after Nathan Junk (Cabot, PA/Koch) and Ryan Finnegan (Fombell, PA/Riverside) singled and Bergstrom walked. But Pitt-Greensburg pitcher Matt Kochasic got Casey Kern (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) to ground out, ending the game.

Bohman went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Behrend, and Bergstrom reached base three times and scored a run. Dante DeSantis (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) struck out four over the course of 8.1 innings pitched and Connor Semple (Washington, PA/McGuffey) hurled two-thrids of a scoreless inning for the Lions.
