HOBOKEN, NJ – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball earned their first win in program history with a 3-1 victory over Bard on day two of the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Crossover weekend hosted by Stevens.
The Lions (1-9, 1-3 UVC) avoided going into a fifth set with Bard, winning 25-18, 25-17, 23-25 and 28-26. Behrend knocked in 13 kills as a team in the second and fourth set. Freshman Tory Larson (Penn Hills, PA/Homeschooled) had a 42.1 attacking percentage with 10 kills on 19 attacks. Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) tallied 13 kills and seven digs in the win.
Evan Fullerton (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) led the Lions with 25 assists, while Anthony Capizzi (Pittsburgh, PA/Pittsburgh Central Catholic) added eight kills. Kevin Dyer (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) recorded nine digs and a team-best two service aces.
Behrend also faced the hosts on the afternoon, falling to eight-ranked Stevens in three games (25-22, 25-16, 25-18). The Lions were never out of any of the sets with the team knocking in a match-best 15 kills in the first game.
Nate Steele (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) paced the squad with seven kills. Kocher contributed seven digs and six kills. Fullerton posted 16 assists.
Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against D'Youville. Match begins at 7 p.m.
