D'Youville Edges Lions in AMCC Semifinals, 3-2

BUFFALO, NY – The second-seeded D'Youville men's volleyball team edged No. 3 Penn State Behrend 3-2 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

Meeting for the third time this season, the Spartans broke the 1-all tie in the series to advance to the AMCC Championships in a thrilling five-set match that went into extra-set points in four games. The Lions (8-17) won the first game 27-25, before D'Youville took the next two to go ahead (27-25, 25-17). Behrend forced a fifth game with another 27-25 win and then dropped the final 16-14 decision.

Statistically, Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) led Behrend with 15 kills, six digs and four blocks. Nate Steele (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) had double-digit kills with 10 to go with nine digs.

Ty Sheehan (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) added 12 kills and three blocks, while Colin Ingram (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby) paced the squad with 23 assists.  Evan Fullerton (Ambridge, PA/Ambridge) recorded a double-double with 16 assists and 10 digs, and Anthony Capizzi (Pittsburgh, PA/Pittsburgh Central Catholic) had a team-best five blocks.

The Lions return to action on Thursday at Wells. Match time is 7 p.m.
