Men's Volleyball Wins Second Straight

NEW YORK, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team put together their first winning streak this season, posting a 3-0 win over John Jay in non-conference action on Sunday.

Playing in their third straight match of the weekend, the Lions (4-12) had a flawless first game to win 25-10 and had no problem in the next two sets winning 25-9 and 25-13. Nate Steele (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) hit 77.8 percent with eight kill on nine attempts with one error.

The Bloodhounds (1-6) only recorded 15 kills in the three-set match. Juan Hernandez led with five.

Behrend made the most of every opportunity at the net in game one, knocking in 13 kills (.591) with no errors. Never trailing, the Lions jumped out to a 18-9 lead and Larry Green (Cambridge Springs, PA/Cambridge Springs) served out the final five points while Tory Larson (Penn Hills, PA/Homeschooled) had two kills to finish the set.

Behrend dominated the second set.  Green's serves helped the Lions once again, leading to 10 consecutive points to make it 21-5. Behrend won the game on a John Jay service error.

The Bloodhounds kept the first half of the set close at 14-9, but they would only score three more points while the Lions tallied five kills and used five John Jay attack errors to return home with a 2-1 record over the weekend.

Colin Ingram (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby) handed out 18 assists on 32 kills for the match.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday at Nazareth. Match begins at 7 p.m.
