Women Run Strong At Mini-Meet

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team competed at the Westminster Mini-Meet on Thursday, to get ready for their trip to Newport News, VA for the 2011 Mason Dixon Conference Championships.

Amanda Wehrle (2nd) and Katie Spade (3rd) kicked things of in the women's 400m dash with Wehrle (1:02.81) getting the best of Spade (1:03.52), crossing the line seven-tenths of a second faster.

Jenna Fatica crushed the 800m race, finishing first with a time of 2:20.36, while Catie Bertges and Liz Keller ran a 5:04.55 and 5:06.24 in the 1500m run to claim fourth and fifth place, respectively.  Fatica and Spade would return in the 4x400m relay. The duo teamed up with Jamie Szramowski and Wehrle for another first place honor, 4:12.42.

Tanisha Wheatley competed back-to-back in the 400m hurdles and the 3000m steeplechase. The senior completed the mid-distance race in 1:14.81 and then won top honors in steeplechase with a time of 12:27.87.

In field events, Kylie Swanson took to the pole vault clearing 2.95m, while Corinne Conto posted 9.53m in the triple jump.
