Lions Finish Third At Conference Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Jenna Fatica led the Penn State Behrend track and field team to a third-place finish at the 2011 Mason Dixon Conference Championships being held at Christopher Newport, Friday and Saturday.

The Lions 126 points was just shy of second place Christopher Newport's 133. The winner of the 2011 championships was Methodist (190).

Being pushed from behind by Katie spade, Fatica was first to cross the finish line in the women's 800m run, recording a time of 2:23.23. Spade finished five tenths of a second after. Fatica and Spade later helped the relay squad post a new school record in the 4x400, 4:06.47. Victoria Harwood, and Amanda contributed in the third-place finish.  

Behrend would place four runners in the 1500 meter run. Fatica (4:52.84), Catie Bertges (4:55.09), Liz Keller (4:57.77), and Spade (5:02.51) all scored key points, while finishing places three through six, respectively.

Another big finish for a group of lady Lions was in the pole vault competition where Harwood (3.10m), Kylie Swanson (2.95m) and Angela Sweeney (2.80m) took first, second and third-place honors.

Katie Monoskey and Stephanie Stoughton performed well in the field events. First, Monoskey was victories in the discus throw (35.97m) and in the hammer throw (38.96m). Then Stoughton set a new school record by launching the javelin 35.39m, good enough to earn her second place.

The top six finishers in each event received Mason Dixon All-Conference honors.
