Golfers Ready For AMCC Championship Weekend

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team is looking to make history by becoming the first team to possibly win their fifth straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship this weekend at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club in Warren, Ohio.

The Lions are also hoping to capture their conference-leading seventh title overall. The tournament is a two-day, 36-hole, stroke-play event beginning on Sunday. The first pairings, based on the order of team finish at the previous year's tournament, will tee off at 11 a.m. La Roche, Hilbert and D'Youville are teeing off first, followed by Mount Aloysius, Medaille and Pitt-Greensburg at 11:50am. Behrend, Penn State Altoona at 12:40 p.m.  

The second round will commence at 9 a.m. on Monday with pairings determined by the day-one results.  The tournament team champion will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which will be held May 10-13 in Rochester, NY.

The Lions, winners of the D'Youville and Hilbert Invitationals, are led by 2014 AMCC Golfer of the Year senior Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), who enters the tournament with an impressive 77.6 average. VanDamia will get help from sophomore Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst), who carries a 79.3 average. Both VanDamia and Sculley have shot a team-low score of 72 this fall season.
