Baseball Takes Two From Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) led the Penn State Behrend baseball team going 5-for-9 with four RBI's in a doubleheader sweep of Centre on Saturday. The Lions (8-2) knocked off Centre (1-13) 7-5 in game one and took game two by a score of 6-4.

Bohman was a double shy of hitting for the cycle in the day's first game singling in the seventh, crushing a solo shot in the top of the fifth inning and led off the eighth with a triple.

Behrend scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 3-all tie. David Boehme, (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) Corey Bowers (Westlake, OH/Westlake) and Jordan Weinzierl (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) all had RBI singles while Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny) added an RBI on a fielder's choice.

Justin Wood (Allegany, NY/Allegany Limestone) battled four and two-thirds innings on the bump giving up three earned runs with three strikeouts. Jack Herzing (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) earned his team-leading third victory as he and Connor Semple (Washington, PA/McGuffey) combined to pitch the final four and one-third innings. Semple came on and threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.

Bohman set the tone early in game two with his second solo shot of the day in the top of the first giving the Lions an early 1-0 lead. Bohman finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI's. Behrend plated four more runs in the second and added an insurance run in the fifth.

Boehme, John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) and Taylor Overby (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) all added an RBI apiece.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) started on the mound and threw four innings and gave up just one earned run with three strikeouts. Tylor Williams (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) picked up his first career save with one and two-thirds innings of work to finish the game. Williams punched out four and gave up only one hit.

The Lions open conference play on Wednesday at home against Pitt-Bradford. First-pitch is slated to come at 1:00 p.m.
