Baseball Splits With La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - After falling in game one of the doubleheader, the Penn State Behrend baseball team completed a three-run comeback in game two with a four run rally in the eighth inning. The Lions (12-6, 3-3 AMCC) fell in game one 13-1, but rebounded to take the second game by a score of 4-3.

La Roche (14-7, 8-2 AMCC) won game one with an offensive outburst that included scoring runs in each inning of the game. Behrend struck for a run in the second inning on a John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) RBI single but the Lions were unable to keep pace with the Redhawks.

After La Roche held a 3-0 lead for the majority of game two, the Lions erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth inning to steal the lead. Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) had an RBI single in the inning while Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny) came up with a clutch two-out RBI hit that put Behrend on top.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) provided five scoreless frames of relief allowing just four hits and fanning four. Rohrer shut the door in the bottom half of the eighth and ninth innings after the Lions took the lead to pick up his fourth win of the year.

Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) had a nice day at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Nathan Junk (Cabot, PA/Knoch) and Ryan Finnegan (Fombell, PA/Riverside) both added three hits apiece in the two games.

Behrend continues conference play on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Hilbert at home. The first game will start at 1 p.m.
