Baseball Falls in Non-Conference Battle With Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell to Thiel 11-4 Friday afternoon in non-conference action snapping their four-game winning streak. Tommy Kocur (Erie, PA/McDowell) paced the Lions (15-7) offense with a 3-for-3 day from the plate with a double and a walk. Kocur also scored a run.

Behrend plated three runs in the third inning to open the scoring after Anthony Faulk (Blairsville, PA/Blairsville) and Kocur led off the inning with base hits. Matt Wolczko (Apollo, PA/Kiski) moved Faulk and Kocur up a base with a sac bunt, and the two came around to score on a fielder's choice hit by Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell). Nathan Junk (Cabot, PA/Knoch) laid down a sacrifice bunt which brought in John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) from third base for the third run of the inning.

Thiel (23-8) countered with two runs in the bottom of third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to grab a 7-3 lead. The Tomcats held the Lions scoreless until the ninth inning while adding two runs in the seventh and eighth each.

Wolczko added an RBI in the ninth with a sacrifice fly, however the deficit was too much for the Lions to recoup from.

Behrend will host Pitt-Greensburg tomorrow at home in a key match-up as both teams are looking to climb the conference standings. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
