Kocur Drives in Five; Baseball Sweeps Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Tommy Kocur (Erie, PA/McDowell) continued his hot streak leading the Penn State Behrend baseball team with a 5-for-9 effort at the plate with 5 RBI's against Medaille in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action. The Lions (20-8, 10-3 AMCC) offense was clicking on all cylinders as they took both games of the doubleheader by a scores of 8-2 and 13-2.

Kocur was an offensive dynamo for Behrend and set the tone early in game one with a bases clearing 3-RBI double that gave the Lions a 5-0 lead in the top of the second. He also added an RBI single in the fifth to finish the game with four RBI's.

After a Nathan Junk (Cabot, PA/Knoch) leadoff double in the fifth, Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) doubled to deep left field to knock in the Lions seventh run of the game.

Jack Herzing (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) picked up his conference-leading sixth win of the season with five strong innings of work. He gave up just one earned run while punching out five. Connor Semple (Washington, PA/McGuffey) closed out the game on the mound with two scoreless innings including four strikeouts.

Behrend had 33 total hits on the day including 19 in game two. Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) paced the offense in the second game going 4-for-6 from the leadoff spot with three RBI's and three runs scored. He opened the scoring in the third inning with a double to right center that brought in Jordan Weinzierl (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) who singled to start the inning.

The Lions plated five runs in the sixth including a solo shot by Kocur. Weinzierl singled home a run and Margraf brought in two runs with a single.

Behrend added four more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth which was more than starting pitcher Alex Hajduk (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) would need. Hajduk threw seven innings allowing no earned runs with seven strikeouts. He earned his second straight win.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) finished off the nine inning affair blanking the Mavericks in two innings. He struck out three.

John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) and David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) had great days at the plate. Hlavinka had five hits in 10 at-bats while Boehme went 4-for-7 with two RBI's in the two games.

Behrend's offense has been clicking in the last three games scoring 33 total runs. The Lions will look to continue the hot streak Saturday when they take on Grove City. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
