Mt. Aloysius Edges Lions Twice

CRESSON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team dropped both games in the opening doubleheader in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play. The Lions (8-4, 0-2 AMCC) fell in both games by a score of 4-3.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) started on the hill for Behrend and went the distance giving up eight hits and three runs while striking out two.

Nathan Junk (Cabot, PA/Knoch) led off the top of the second inning with a double and was singled home by Corey Bowers (Westlake, OH/Westlake) for the Lions first run.

Jordan Weinzierl (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) added an RBI single in the sixth inning, plating Behrend's second run. The Lions would add a run in the seventh, but saw their comeback attempt fall just short.

In game two, Behrend once again was defeated in a one-run game. Jack Herzing (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) started on the bump and provided 6.1 innings pitched and allowed only two runs while punching out three.

Weinzierl had two hits in the contest including another RBI single in the third inning that scored John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township). Hlavinka also had two hits.

Behrend tacked on a run in the sixth when Hlavinka was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored Bowers from third base. The Lions once again saw their comeback attempt fall just short in the ninth inning.

Behrend will look to rebound Tuesday when they travel to conference foe D'Youville for an AMCC doubleheader. First-pitch is set to come at 1 p.m.
