Baseball Falls to Case Western, 2-1

CLEVELAND, Oh. - Case Western scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to snatch a 2-1 victory over the Penn State Behrend Baseball team in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 with two outs in the top of the ninth, Nathan Junk (Cabot, PA/Knoch) came up with a clutch base knock that plated the tying run.

Case Western (15-9) took the game in the bottom half of the ninth with a two-out walk-off base hit that earned the Spartans their fifteenth victory of the year.

Junk finished the game 3-for-4 including the huge hit to tie the game in the ninth. Justin Dilla (South Park, PA/South Park) helped keep the Case Western offense at bay throwing out two runners attempting to steal.

Behrend's pitching staff combined to hold Case Western to seven hits and two runs while striking out five. Alex Hajduk (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) started the game on the hill while Tylor Williams, (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) Brandon Smail, (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) and Andrew Quiggle (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy (Central Tech)) provided relief support out of the bullpen.

The Lions return to action tomorrow with two conference games on the schedule. Behrend will travel to La Roche for an AMCC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
