Pitching Shines in Sweep of Pitt-Greensburg

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team held Pitt-Greensburg scoreless in two games picking up a doubleheader sweep in conference action Saturday afternoon. The Lions (17-7, 8-3 AMCC) won both games 2-0 behind strong pitching performances from the Behrend pitching staff.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning of game one, Tommy Kocur (Erie, PA/McDowell) delivered a clutch RBI single to knock in the first run of the game and give the Lions the lead.

Alex Hajduk (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) was terrific on the mound tossing six scoreless innings allowing no runs and five hits. Hajduk earned the first victory of his career.

Behrend added an insurance run in the sixth inning and Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) came on in relief to get the final three outs in the seventh. Rohrer recorded his first save of the season.

Game two played out similarly as Tylor Williams (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) earned the win throwing eight shutout innings surrendering just five hits. Williams struck out five and walked just one.

The Lions scored both runs of the game in the first inning. Ryan Finnegan (Fombell, PA/Riverside) singled with two outs and Nathan Junk (Cabot, PA/Knoch) followed with an RBI triple. Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) knocked in the second run with an RBI single to right field that scored Junk. Margraf finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate.

Connor Semple (Washington, PA/McGuffey) closed out the ninth inning retiring Pitt-Greensburg (13-14-1, 4-6 AMCC) in order and earned his conference-leading third save of the season.

Finnegan and Kocur both added two hits in the game while Matt Wolczko (Apollo, PA/Kiski) chipped in a 1-for-2 game with a walk.

Behrend has caught fire in AMCC play winning their last six games against conference opponents. Tomorrow the Lions will square off against non-conference foe Mount Union at home. First-pitch is at 3 p.m.
