Lions Headline AMCC Women's Swimming Awards

ERIE, Pa.  – Junior Anne Lawrence was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Women's Swimmer of the Year, while freshman Rachael Ragen was voted Newcomer of the Year and Emily Frederick tabbed Diver of the Year honors, announced on Wednesday.

Lawrence repeats as AMCC Swimmer of the Year, after winning two individual events and swimming on three first-place relay teams to earn First Team All-AMCC. She was also named to the second team for finishing second in the 100 fly at the conference championships. Lawrence broke the school record in the 200 butterfly and 200 IM at that meet.

Ragen earned the high point honors at the championship meet, winning three individual events and helping the Lions' place first in four relays.  The newcomer was named AMCC Swimmer of the Week on three occasions, while breaking four records this season. Ragen also broke individual AMCC meet records in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 butterfly.

Frederick, who battled an injury the first half of the season, jumped right in after the break and was named AMCC Diver of the Week three times before winning the 1m and 3m diving competitions at the conference meet.  

Katie Van Epps, Hilary MacManus, Julie Cook and MaryEllen Spooner also earned All-AMCC first-team honors. All four swimmers were apart of record-breaking relay teams. Cook and Spooner also earned all-conference for winning two individual events at the AMCC Championships.

At the AMCC meet, Spooner set the school record for the 100 and 200 back, while Cook broke the 200 breaststroke record.  Van Epps also broke the 400 IM record for the Lions.  Meghan Stefanko rounded out the all-conference awards with second-team accolades in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
