BRADFORD, Pa. – The men’s and women’s swimming program traveled to Pitt-Bradford to compete in the season opener Saturday finishing for a combined placing of 2nd out of 6 teams with 196 points.

The men’s swimming program won all but one event in the 5th Annual Panther Relay’s. The highlight of the night would belong to Hunter Backenstose, Dane Dombrosky, Brian Mong and Josh Weaver, members of the 800 meter relay team which broke the Bradford pool record with a remarkable time of 7:25.62. Dombrosky and Mong where also a part of the men’s 300 yard butterfly relay along with Steve Torre and Clay Altemose who finished the event in 2:38.59.

The Behrend women’s 500 yard freestyle relay team placed first place among the six schools in competition. The women, Meghan Stefanko, Anne Lawrence, Hilary MacManus and Rachel Ragen posted a time of 5:10.28. This same line up with the exception of Spooner for Ragen, took second in the 300 yard backstroke relay reaching the finish with a time of 3:15.51.

Two mixed relay teams stuck out for Behrend. Ragen, Lawrence, Jake Sherk and Altemose combined to win the 400 yard reverse relay while MaryEllen Spooner and Julia Pfund teamed up with Peter Blazak and Everett Sargent to take second place in the 200 yard relay.

The Lions will return to the water October 30, at Bethany. The Invitational is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
