Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight

Greensburg, Pa. – Emily Lewis (Washington, PA/Bishop Canevin) and Katie Mundy (North Hungtindon, PA/Norwin) each scored their first goal of the season to help the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team defeat Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday night.

Lewis also tallied an assist, while Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) tallied her sixth goal of the season to lead the Lions (7-3-1, 3-0 AMCC) to their third straight win and third consecutive conference victory.

Behrend scored all three goals in the first half to build the lead that would stand through the remaining 45 minutes. Lewis intercepted an attempted clear by the Bobcats (0-9-1, 0-2-1 AMCC) in their defensive end and blasted a shot in the upper corner for the Lions first goal just six minutes after the opening whistle.

Lewis then assisted Wagner on a goal less than five minutes later. Wagner floated her shot over Olivia Valenti for a 2-0 Behrend lead.

Making her first appearance this season, Mundy netted her first collegiate goal off an assist from Cassi Teti (Elizabeth Forward, PA/Elizabeth Forward) in the 39th minute.

Pitt-Greensburg was able to avoid the shut out with a goal by Alexa Henry from a Brittany Jackson assist for the final 3-1 margin.

Heather Klimuszka (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) started in goal and played 61 minutes to collect the win, while Alayna Steele (Washington, PA/Trinity) played the remaining 29 minutes of the game.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday at Baldwin-Wallace. Game time is 7 p.m.
