Lions Scoring Frenzy Leads To Win Over Hilbert

ERIE, Pa. – Emily Lewis (Washington, PA/Bishop Canevin) and Lindsey Steinsdoerfer (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) each netted two goals to lead the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team past Hilbert 7-0 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) contest on Wednesday.

The Lions (9-6-1, 5-2 AMCC) scored seven unanswered goals, including five in the first half alone, to bounce back from two-game losing skid. Behrend held a 19-1 shot advantage, blasting most in the opening stanza to take commanding lead.

Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) had a hand in the first two goals, assisting Lewis in the first two minutes of the game on the first goal and then chipping a shot over Mary Zinni for a 2-0 lead with just 14 minutes into the contest.

Exactly four minutes later, Steinsdoerfer tallied her first goal off a pass from the right by Sam Vasy (North Hungtindon, PA/Norwin). In the 24th minute, defender Julia Schroeck (Fairview, PA/Fairview) made a run up the field and drilled a long shot into the goal off a deflected corner kick for a 4-0 lead.

Steinsdoerfer gave the Lions a five-goal cushion at the 29:11 mark with a shot inside the box for her second of the day.

In the second half, Lewis was the first person to score again but this time on a breakaway in the 60th minute while Heather Klimuszka took off the goalie gloves to play up top and record the last goal for Behrend. Katie Mundy (North Hungtindon, PA/Norwin) assisted Klimuszka with a ball through the middle for a 7-0 advantage.

Robin Siegenthaler (Penns Valley, PA/Penns Valley) started in goal and played the first 45 minutes, before Alayna Steele (Washington, PA/Trinity) went in the net for the second half.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Mt. Aloysius. Game time is 3 p.m.
