Four Named CSAC Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Four Penn State Behrend men's and women's track & field athletes were named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Athletes of the Week.

Kody Klein (North East, PA/Cathedral Prep), Samuel Hetrick (New Bethlehem, PA/Redbank Valley), Madison Kappeler (Cecil, PA/Canon-McMillan) and Shannon Burns (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson) were honored.

Klein garnered Track Athlete of the Week for winning two events at the Behrend Invitational on Sunday. He placed first in the 3000m steeplechase setting a CSAC-leading time of 9:49.83 and qualified for the AARTFC meet.  Additionally, Klein ran a leg on the winning 4x800 relay and placed third in the 400m (52.53; 6th in CSAC).

Hetrick was chosen for Field Athlete of the Week. The junior won two events on the at the Behrend Invitational. In the high jump, Hetrick set a new facility record with a mark of 2.08m.  That mark also ranks second in NCAA Division III.  Additionally, Hetrick won the 400m (51.40; 3rd in CSAC). 

Kappeler earned Track Athlete of the Week, winning four events this weekend. The junior started the day with two wins on the track; first, in the 100m (13.17; leads the CSAC with a 13.05 mark) followed by the 200m (27.11m; CSAC leader).  Kappeler then won the pole vault with a CSAC-leading mark of 3.25m and finished with a win in the long jump (5.09m; 2nd in CSAC). 

Burns was selected Field Athlete of the Week. She won the high jump with a mark of 1.52m; a personal record and the second-best mark in the CSAC outdoor season.  Burns also finished second in the long jump with a sixth-best CSAC mark of 4.62m and second in the triple jump with a fifth-best CSAC mark of 9.45m.
