Baseball Shuts Out Bridgewater St. in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH, Fl. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team picked up their first team shutout of the season, defeating Bridgewater State 8-0 Wednesday afternoon.

Phil Myers (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic), Eric Mikulan (Pittsburgh, PA/Hampton), and David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-Le Salle) combined for the shutout.

Myers got the start and picked up the win in seven innings of work for the Lions (4-1). He gave up six hits, a walk and struck out two. Mikulan and Boehme each pitched an inning and struck out two.

Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) each homered against the Bears (3-3) pitching staff. Bohman hit a leadoff solo shot to start the bottom half of the third and three batters later, Sada went yard for his first collegiate home run. Bohman finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) went 3-for-5 from the plate. He hit a double, recorded an RBI and scored twice. JT Riley (Gibsonia, PA/Pine Richland) also had a solid day in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Behrend is back in action tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. They square off against Widener back in Fort Pierce, FL.
