Baseball Wins Twice at Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team picked up a non-conference sweep of Alfred State 11-8 and 8-4 Saturday afternoon.

Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Nathan Noe (Albion, PA/Northwestern) went 3-for3, matching Bergstrom's run and RBI output to lead the Lions (25-13) at the plate in game one.

Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three doubles. With the three doubles Sada hit, he now sits second in Behrend history in doubles in a season (20).

John Brittner (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) two hits in four at bats with two RBIs while Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) was 1-for-2 with a team-high three RBIs.

For the Pioneers (12-21), Jose Martinez knocked in a team-high three RBIs and two others had multi-hit games.

The Lions scored two runs in the second and third and added three in the fourth and fifth to capture the win in the first game.

In game two, after being down 4-3, Behrend used a five-run sixth inning to give themselves the lead and a four-run cushion for the final two innings. They recorded only two hits in the inning, but capitalized on three Alfred St. errors to score their runs.

Seven of the nine Lion hitters recorded a hit in the nightcap and seven scored a run. Bergstrom led the team with two runs scored and Matt Wolczko (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) paced the squad with two RBIs.

Zachary Krivda (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport Area) picked up his fifth win of the season on the mound, tying him for the team lead on the season. He threw three innings in relief after Sean Rutkosky (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) left him a one-run lead through four strong with three strikeouts.

The Lions host Pitt-Bradford Saturday in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) playoffs at 1 p.m.
