Six Selected as Baseball All-AMCC

ERIE, Pa. – Six Penn State Behrend baseball players were named to a 2016 All-Conference Team, including two first-team choices, one second and three third-team selections.

Junior Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and freshman Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) highlighted the Lions on the first team. Rohrer was second in the conference with a 1.08 ERA in AMCC play. In 25.0 innings pitched, he posted a 2-1 record with two complete games and held opponents to a .126 average. Rohrer surrendered only three earned runs and struck out 23 hitters. He finished the season 6-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 60.2 innings pitched and averaged 6.97 strikeouts per game.

Sada had an outstanding breakout campaign in his first year at Behrend to become a first-team second baseman. He led the team in batting average (.376), at bats (170), hits (64), doubles (25) and slugging percentage (.588). In the first game of the AMCC finals, Sada set a new program record for doubles in a season with 25. He also posted a .974 fielding percentage in 156 total chances and was a perfect 11-for-11 stealing bases.

Freshman Eric Mikulan (Pittsburgh, PA/Hampton) was the lone Lion on the second team. The reliever was a perfect 5-0 out of the bullpen this season and added two saves. He was 2-0 in conference play with a 3.86 ERA. In 14 appearances, Mikulan threw 42.1 innings, striking out 31 batters to average 6.59 per game.

Junior catcher Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell), junior shortstop Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) and senior right fielder John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) were all selected to the third team.

Bohman was third on the team with a .373 conference batting average and second with a .457 on-base percentage. He split time behind the plate and as a DH. Bohman led the team in triples (4), home runs (5) and stolen bases (12), while he was second in runs scored (39) and RBIs (40) this season. He posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 48 chances behind the dish in AMCC play and .971 overall.

Bergstrom is making his first appearance on an All-Conference team for his incredible defensive abilities. In his 83 total chances in conference play this season, he committed only one error to post a .988 fielding percentage, the highest percentage for any player with more than 60 chances. In total, Bergstrom hit .305 with a .382 on-base percentage. He was tied for second on the team with 10 doubles and 39 RBIs.

Lastly, Hlavinka is making his third All-AMCC appearance, including a third-team honor last year. The senior moved into third place in Behrend's all-time hit record book with his 213th career knock and is fifth in all-time runs scored with 147. In the second spot in the lineup, Hlavinka hit .359 this season with 60 hits, 44 runs scored and 33 runs batted in. He added six doubles, two triple and two homers.
