Baseball Splits With Kenyon

FORT PIERCE, Fl. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team split with Kenyon College Friday, falling 3-2 in eight innings and winning game two 9-6.

Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) went 2-for-2 with three walks in game two, including a triple and a home run to force the split. He scored three runs and tallied four RBIs after a 1-for-2 outing with two walks as the designated hitting in game one.

David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) brought in three runs himself in game two, recording two doubles for both of his hits.

The Lions (6-2) found themselves in a 5-2 hole after four innings, but once again the fifth inning jumpstarted Behrend's offense. A leadoff double by Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) followed by a triple by Bohman, a double by Boehme and a single by Ian Taylor (Wexford, PA/Vincentian Academy) plated three runs and tied the game at 5-all.

Behrend added two important insurance runs in the sixth and the seventh to seal the victory. Zachary Krivda (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport Area) got the nod on the mound and earned a no decision, going four innings striking out eight.

Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) is stepping in and performing in all aspects of the game for the Lions. After a great start to the season from the plate, Sada picked up the win, throwing three scoreless innings.

Game one between Behrend and the Lords (4-4) went into extras where Kenyon scored a run in the top half and sealed the deal on the defensive end in the bottom half to hand the Lions only their second loss of the season.

Phillip Nam reached on an error for the Lords to lead off the eighth. He advanced to second on a sacrifice and the to third on a wild pitch. A ground ball out to Bergstrom by Tyler Roldan scored the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning, run.

Behrend got on the board first. Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) singled that scored Sada to put them up 1-0. Kenyon answered with two runs of their own to take the lead in the sixth.

After a scoreless seventh pitched by Brandon Smail (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area), John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) singled to left that scored Corey Bowers (Westlake, OH/Westlake) to force extras.

The Lions finish their spring break trip in Florida tomorrow against Maritime (N.Y.) at 12:30 p.m.
