DUBOIS, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team hit five home runs in the second game of an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate (AMCC) double header Saturday that lifted them to a split against Penn State Altoona, losing 7-2 and winning 13-1 respectively.

In their win, John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township), William Kirkpatrick (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum), David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-Le Salle), Ian Taylor (Wexford, PA/Vincentian Academy) and Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) all hit long balls to give Behrend (17-8, 6-2 AMCC) one win on the day.

Taylor led the lead with three RBI and Hlavinka, Boehme and Margraf all recorded two RBIs on two hits.  As a team, the Lions scored 13 runs on 13 hits and held the Altoona Lions (9-21, 2-6 AMCC) to one run on nine hits.

Behrend got their bats going in the second inning and did not slow down. Two runs on two hits started the onslaught and was followed by four runs with two dingers in the third. Boehme drove in two with his bomb in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth put the Lions ahead with a comfortable 11-0 lead.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) picked up his third win of the season, throwing six scoreless on only three hits. Sam Maxwell (Pittsburgh, PA/Mount Lebanon) tossed three innings in relief, surrendering a run on four hits and a walk. Rohrer struck out eight and Maxwell picked up his first collegiate save.

The Lions struggled at the plate in game one. They could only register two runs on seven hits and Penn State Altoona doubled Behrend in hit column with 14 and scored seven runs.

Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) and Margraf were the only players to have multiple hits (2), and Sada recorded the teams only RBI.

Altoona took the lead with two runs in the first and followed it with a three-spot in the third. The Lions recorded a run in the second and third, but another two-run inning in the six for Altoona sealed the win to start the afternoon.

Behrend travels to Mount Union tomorrow for a single game starting at 2 p.m.
