Baseball Takes Down Maritime 15-5

FORT PIERCE, Fl. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team finished their spring training on a high note Saturday afternoon, defeating Maritime 15-5.

The Lions (7-7) exploded for nine runs in the first inning to set the tone for their final game in Florida. They nearly batted around twice, registering six hits and a walk.

The Privateers (4-2) tried to fight their way back, scoring a run in the fourth and three in the fifth, but a five-run sixth inning by Behrend shut the door on any comeback chance.

Justin Rohrer (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) picked up the win on the mound for the Lions, going five innings of six-hit ball while striking out six.

Sean Rutkosky (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) and David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton La-Salle) each put in two innings of relief. Rutkosky did not give up a run and Boehme struck out four with one earned run. Boehme also went 3-for-5 and a walk at the plate, scoring three runs.

Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) had a game-high four hits in five plate appearances. He knocked a double and recorded three RBIs.

Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell), Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny), Justin Foreman (Oakdale, PA/South Fayette) and Kyle Hunt (Russell, PA/Calvary Chapel Christian) each added two RBIs in the contest.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Waynesburg. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
