Allegheny Sweeps Season Series with Baseball

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell to Allegheny Wednesday evening 10-4, giving the Gators a 2-0 series sweep on the season.

The Lions (19-10) had their bats hot early, scoring two runs in the first and one in the second. From there, Allegheny (12-12) was able to stop any more run production until one more in the final frame.

John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) and Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) led Behrend with three hits apiece in five at bats. They each also scored a run in the first inning.

Hlavinka scored on a David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-Le Salle) sacrifice fly and Bohman crossed the plate after Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) reached on an infield single.

Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown), Nathan Noe (Albion, PA/Northwestern) and Margraf each tallied two hits, while Sada added the Lions' final RBI.

Three separate Gators recorded three-hit performances and Shea Beaumont led the team with three RBIs.

Until the fifth inning, Allegheny trailed 3-2. They then got two runs in the fifth and two more in the eighth, while adding four final runs in the ninth.

Behrend got a run back in the bottom of the ninth, but the damage had been done and they fell to the Gators by six runs for the second time this season (8-2, 10-4).

The Lions return to action against La Roche at home. The double header is slotted for 1 and 4 p.m.
