Baseball Defeated by La Roche in AMCC Title Match

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team lost to La Roche 4-2 in game two of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship Sunday afternoon.

The Redhawks (36-9) scored two runs to break a 2-all tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to regain the lead and kept that lead to secure the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

For the Lions (29-16), David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-Le Salle) paced the team with two hits and six others recorded a hit to total seven for the game.

Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) added to his new record with another double and a run scored. John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) had a hit in the contest to give him 214 on his career, moving him into third place in the all-time record books.

Phil Myers (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) was impressive in his first championship start of his career. He surrendered 10 hits and four runs with four strikeouts in seven innings of work. His counterpart, David Lemley, was equally impressive however, throwing a seven-hit complete game with five strikeouts.

La Roche strung together a run in the first and a run in the third to take a 2-0 lead through the first four innings. Nathan Noe (Albion, PA/Northwestern) scored on a Hlavinka single to put Behrend on the board in the fifth.

The Lions then tied the game in the sixth. Sada doubled and Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell) singled to put runners on the corners. Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Sada and knotted the game at 2-all.

The Redhawks then scored two runs in the seventh on three singles and a stolen base to recapture the lead. Lemley retired the next six Behrend hitters to close the game and win the title.

The Lions await a postseason bid to see if they will continue their season.
