Mount Union Defeats Baseball

ALLIANCE, Oh. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell to Mount Union 11-1 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

Mike Martin threw a seven-hit complete game for the Raiders (14-14), while only giving up one run to earn his first win of the season. Mitchell Lake went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs to lead them at the plate.

The Lions (17-9) scored their lone run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly hit by Nathan Noe (Albion, PA/Northwestern) that scored Brandon Bergstrom (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny). Noe's RBI was his first of the season.

Mount Union scored at least a run in every inning except the sixth and seventh. They scored one, three, two, two and one run in the first five innings respectively to take a commanding 9-0 lead.

John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) and Matt Wolczko (Apollo, PA/Kiski) each went 1-for-2 at the plate registering a triple a piece. They are each tied for the team lead, along with Brian Bohman (Erie, PA/McDowell), with two triples this season.

Behrend looks to get back on track at Hilbert Tuesday in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) double header scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m.
