Baseball Falls to Marietta in Regular Season Finale

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team lost their final game of the regular season to Division III powerhouse Marietta College 13-5 Sunday afternoon.

On a sunny Mother's Day afternoon, the Lions (27-14) struggled to get much offense going, and the Pioneers' bats were too hot to handle. Marietta four players with multi-hit games, including three of those four who posted three-hit days.

Coming off his walk-off hit Saturday, David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-Le Salle) led Behrend at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs scored. Four other Lions recorded a hit to tally six total for the team and five separate players drove in one run a piece.

After going down 2-0 after one inning and 70- after three, Behrend finally started chipping away at the deficit. Matt Wolczko (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) grounded out but drove in Boehme from third to put their first run across the plate.

The Pioneers added four more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth before the Lions could add some more runs of their own. Justin Foreman (Oakdale, PA/South Fayette) doubled to right center that scored Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) from second and moved Wolczko to third.

A groundout by Ian Taylor (Wexford, PA/Vincentian Academy) in the next at bat scored Wolczko and Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) hit a sacrifice fly to score Foreman and produce their best scoring inning of the game.

Behrend is back in action Thursday in the AMCC final four for a matchup against Pitt-Greensburg at 1 p.m. at La Roche.
