Harwood's Big Day Leads Lions at Kenyon Classic

GAMBIER, Ohio - Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) placed first, second, and third, in three different events to lead the Penn State Behrend women's track and field team at the Kenyon Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Harwood started the day in grand fashion by winning the women's pole vault with a height of 3.20m.  The junior vaulter qualified for ECAC's and broke the school record that she set on Febuary 4, 2012 after winning a jump off.  Harwood then turned to the track.  She finished second in the the 400m run with a time of 1:01.77.  In her final event of the afternoon, Harwood finished third in the 200m run, crossing the finish line at 27:21.

Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) continued to have a strong indoor season. Bertges finished the 3000m run in 11:01.95 for second place.

In the 800m run, Katie Spade (Warren, PA/Warren) took fifth place.  Spade finished with a time of 2:29.15.

Spade also led two Behrend runners in the one mile run.  Spade took seventh place with a time of 5:32.11.  Close behind was Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) who crossed the finish line at 5:36.56 for ninth place.

The Lions' indoor regular season is now complete.  Behrend will now prepare for the ECAC indoor championships on March 2 in New York City.
